Spring Fundraiser Sports New Leadership, New Look, New Purpose

Alumna Patricia Shacklett and husband Jim are co-chairing CHC’s first Scholarship Gala on Saturday, March 13, in the Rotunda of St. Joseph Hall. The black tie-optional event is the College’s fourth generation of spring fundraisers, which began in 2000 as a women’s golf invitational. Proceeds from the evening’s ticket sales, sponsorships, and chances on a select few vacation opportunities go directly to the College’s academic scholarship funds.

Patti Shacklett is a 2006 graduate of the School of Undergraduate Studies Kirby Program, which welcomes women beyond the traditional undergraduate age to the full-time undergraduate degree program.

“We’re happy to chair the event because we love Chestnut Hill College and what it stands for,” Shacklett said before convening the committee's first meeting on January 6. “Jim and I are excited about the recent growth of the college and the expansion of the campus grounds. We’re especially happy to be involved in a fundraiser where $100 of every $175 ticket sold is going to the students directly for academic scholarships.”

The festive evening of cocktails, dinner, live music, a student performance, and a few surprises is the fourth in a series of spring fundraising events hosted by the College over the last 10 years. A women’s golf invitational launched the annual event and was followed by an art auction and, most recently, the Emerald Evening of casino gaming paired with a silent and live auction.

The Scholarship Gala is the College's first fundraising event to be chaired by a couple and to consist of a number of couples on its committee. “Because of my experience, the college will forever hold a special place in my heart. Jim and I are delighted to help in any way that we can, and we're thrilled to be working with a wonderful group of CHC boosters --- alumni, faculty, staff, and friends --- on our committee: Tom and Christine O'Donnell Carroll '71, Betty Anne Marron Cooper '71, Michael and Amy McLeer Frangione '94, Anne Gardner, Joanne and Philip Gilligan, Cecilia (Cissy) Englebert Passanza '77, Carol Pate, Ed.D. and John Melvin, M.D., Richard and Mary Ann Stahl Patton '87, Lisa Perfidio '84, Heyda Toth '77, and JoMarie Victor '04 SCPS."

The new venture moves the venue from the Sorgenti Arena to the College's glorious six-story Rotunda and adjoining parlors. “I enjoyed my experience at CHC immensely as a Kirby student," Shacklett notes, "and it was four years of my life that I shall never forget. I want to be sure that anyone who will value a CHC education has an opportunity to do so."
